How do you apply colors in Feng Shui?
Feng Shui Colors
Qi is a form of energy. It can be classified into 5 types that resemble the elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal and are commonly known as the Five Elements.
For example a wooden chair is strong in wood type ‘qi’, while a gold ring is strong in metal ‘qi’. Both the examples illustrate manifestation of ‘qi’ in the visible spectrum. We must note also that ‘qi’ exist in the invisible spectrum too. For example water evaporates and turns into a form that we cannot see.
Each of the five elements can be represented by colors. For example water is blue (and black) while wood is green. Fire is red (or orange) while earth is yellow. Finally metal is white (gold and silver as well).
Colors can be used in Feng Shui to enhance auspicious and to counter inauspicious ‘qi’. For example if a sector, say the living area, is strong in auspicious wood ‘qi’, we can enhance it by painting the walls green or blue. Green which represents wood supports the auspicious wood ‘qi’ while water which represents water produces the wood ‘qi’.
Let’s take another example of an area that is afflicted by an inauspicious earth ‘qi’. We would try to reduce the negative effect of the earth ‘qi’ by painting the walls white (representing metal) as metal weakens earth in the cycle of the five elements. Alternatively we can also introduce gold or silver color items into the area.
