There is a popular Chinese saying, “Eyebrow longer than the eye, sibling 4, 5, 6”.

The saying implies that if your eyebrow is longer than (the width of) your eye then you will have many siblings.

In Chinese Face Reading, the eyebrow and the region near it falls under the Sibling palace. It denotes amongst many things the quality of the relationship that you have with your sibling (includes cousins and business partners).

If the eyebrow is long and orderly, then the person is on friendly terms with his siblings and is likely to have a large family. On the other hand if the eyebrow is short then he is likely to come from a small family and may have problems with siblings!

According to a study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences of Britain’s de-facto academy of sciences, consuming a hearty breakfast laced with sugar can boost a woman’s chances of conceiving a son. Like wise a low-energy diet than skimps on calories, mineral and nutrients is more likely to yield a female.

This research may help to explain why the proportion of boys is falling in developed countries where young mothers choose low calorie diets.

The ancient Chinese courts have a conception calendar can reputedly increase the chance of conceiving a child of a particular sex. It is called the Chinese Pregnancy Calendar or the Chinese Gender Calendar.

Perhaps combining the two techniques can help you increase your chances of conceiving the boy (or the girl) that you greatly wanted.

There is no guarantee but I suppose a little help here and there won’t hurt!

Most people are able to relate directions, seasons and colors with the Five Elements.

For example water is associated with north, with winter and the color blue and black. Wood is associated with the east, with spring and green. Fire is associated with the south, summer and the color red. Metal is associated with the west, with autumn and metallic colors such as gold and silver. Finally earth is associated with the center, the tail end of the seasons and the color yellow.

I want to share another association that I hope will wider your understanding of the Five Elements.

Here goes.

Water goes down.
Fire goes up.
Wood grows.
Metal contracts.
Earth supports.

Also do not think of the Five Elements as physical elements only. Instead think of them as different types of energy generated by the interaction of yin and yang!

What is the element of the restaurant business? It is fire since there is a lot of grilling, frying, boiling etc going on.

But what about the coffee shop of coffee house? It is water for obvious reasons. Even though there is a little toasting and burning in such a place it is little compared to what goes on in a restaurant.

Other water business would include laundry, spa, fishing, mineral water, marine etc while other fires business would include foundry, news reporting, beauty and the optical profession.

Business or profession classified under earth includes property and property development, construction, agriculture and pottery works.

Those classified under mining and other metal and mineral related business while wood business includes the paper industry, garden and nursery, printing and publishing.

All of the examples that I have given are obvious and representative of the element.

What about less obvious ones such as telecommunication, law, insurance etc?

So what does blog means?

The most common definition is ‘online personal diary’ or ‘online journal’ but the most interesting definition that I came across is ‘boring like a log’.

For most of us the space between our eyes is more or less equal to the width of our eyes.However in some people, this space is less than the width of the eye. The eyes appear closer together and we call this close set eye. When the space is wider than the width of the eye, we call it wide set eye.

In face reading, people with close set eyes are more focused while those with wide set eyes find it harder to concentrate and do one thing at a time.

Those with close set eye are however less tolerant that those with wide set eyes.

I attended a talk today conduct by a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner and he shared something that I think may interest you.

He explained that constipation is an ailment that is caused by excessive yang in the body. Liberal consumption of ‘warming’ beverages such as hot chocolate and the likes can create this condition of excessive yang in the body that leads to constipation.

Consuming yin beverages such as barley and flower tea can help to alleviate this condition.

But beware. Excessive consumption of such ‘cooling’ beverage can lead to excessive yin leading to weak knee!

The ancient Chinese believe that the cosmic (coming from out of space) and other earthly energies present at the moment of birth, induces in you a signature which determines your destiny.

As you grow (and the planets continue to rotate), the cosmic energy and earthly energies interacts with your signature to influence your life path positively or negatively.

Let’s assume that this signature can be represented by elements. For example your may be 4 parts water, 3 parts metal, 1 part earth, 0 part fire and 0 part wood. You are considered strong water with wood and fire as your beneficial elements.

When the cosmic and/or earthly energy of the decade or year is Water or Metal, then you become two strong with Water and Metal. This out of balance condition will result in inauspiciousness in some aspect of your life.

However when the cosmic and earthly energy is fire and/or Wood, then you are more balanced and the life path becomes more auspicious at least in most aspect of your life.

Where does Feng Shui come into the picture?

Since you lack Wood and Fire, living in a house that face East (direction of wood) or South (direction of fire) will benefit you.

Or you can move away from home to the south or east. You can also have plenty of plants in your garden.

In Chinese face reading the forehead represents the period of your life between 15 and 30. If the forehead is high, broad and smooth without any dents or blemishes, we can make a good guess that life is easier for the person during this period. He is also likely to be well supported by his parents or relatives.

The area around the center of the forehead is also the career palace and it denotes power. Again if the forehead is high, broad and smooth, then this person is also likely to a achieve position (and recognition) in his career.

The ancient Chinese believe that wealth is a component of success. In other words if you have power, you will also have wealth.

Can you have wealth without power? Yes. The very successful chicken rice seller can make a lot of money but may not have position or recognition.

To summarize, when you have power, money comes along naturally but you do not need power to have money.

Does this make sense today?

The GanZhi or Stem Branch system is the basis of Chinese time keeping.

There are 10 stems namely Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren and Gui.

There are 12 branches namely Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai.

Of the 10 stems Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng and Ren are yang while the rest are yin.

Of the 12 stems Zi, Yin, Chen, Wu, Shen and Xu are yang while the rest are yin.

When we combine the stems and branch the yang stems can only pair with a yang branch and vice versa.

I still remember an incident some time back when someone in the discussion ask for the Na Yin element of Yi Chen (Yi is yin stem and Chen is yang branch).

It took a while before someone pointed out that there is no such pairing as Yi Chen. You see Yi is a yin stem while Chen is yang branch. A yin stem cannot pair with a yang branch and vice versa. Therefore it is an invalid pairing and does not exit.

Jia Zi, Jia Wu, Bing Xu and Gui Chou are valid as they are either both yang or yin. Jia Chou or Geng Chou is not!
