Feng Shui Questions

How do I determine the facing direction of a house or an apartment?

Every house or apartment building has a sitting and a facing direction and in most cases, we can intuitively tell them apart. The facing is usually the side with the main road, more windows, main entrance door and heavier traffic while the sitting is the side with the back-lane, smaller exit and has less traffic.

The simple rule above allows us to identify the sitting and facing of most buildings. In practice you will however come across buildings with ambiguous or uncertain facing. In such circumstances you can use the additional rules below to assist you to identify the facing and sitting.

I am going to share with you a couple of examples that will show the difference between the house or apartment building facing and the door facing.

In many building the main door is on the facing side as shown in the diagram on the left. This is often described in Feng Shui books as a house that sits North and face South. Note that both the house and the main door share the same facing direction i.e. South.

Can you see it?

It is not necessary for the main door to have the same facing as the house.

In the diagram on the right, the house is still sitting North and facing South, but note that the main door is now facing East.

Understanding the difference is crucial.

In  the Flying Star school, the facing of the house is used in conjunction with the period of the house to draw the Flying Star chart.

The main door (in this case facing East) is not the facing of the house. The facing of the house is still South!
