Feng Shui Questions
What do I need to do to change the period of my house?
In the Flying Star school of Feng Shui, the years are divided into blocks of twenty years called periods. Each period is given a number between 1 to 9. For example houses that are completed between the 4th Feb 1984 and 3rd Feb 2004 are known as Period 7 house. Those completed between 4th Feb 2004 and 3rd Feb 2024 are known as Period 8 houses and so on.
Knowing the period of the house is crucial in the Flying Star system because
it is used in conjunction with the facing direction of the house to draw the
Flying Star chart. If you provide an incorrect period, you get a completely
different chart and an incorrect feng shui reading.
In the Flying Star system, an older house from a previous period can be re-born to a current period. Let's say you have a house that was completed in Dec 1990. It falls between 4th Feb. 1984 and 3th Feb. 2004 and hence it is a period 7 house. You can re-born the house to a current period by carrying out adequate renovation works.
The question is how much is enough!
Feng Shui practitioners differ in their interpretations of how much is enough and you should not be surprise to hear different opinions even from different masters.
I prefer to take the safe route and that is to conform as much as possible to traditional thinking on what is enough.
To change the period of a house, you must renew the energy of heaven, earth and man.
You can renew the energy of heaven by removing the roof tiles to allow the
energies of heaven symbolized by the entry of sunlight and rain, to enter the
house. If you can, remove all the roof tiles but if that is not practical, then
remove at least a third of the roof. The roof should remained open for a long
period but if that is not practical then leave it open for at least a week.
You can renew the energy of the earth by changing the floor tiles of your house. Again, if you can, change all of them but if it is not practical then try to renew a third of them by area.
You can renew the energy of man by moving out of house during the renovation period.
In addition to the above, you also need to either change the front door or re-furbish it. And, finally a new coat of paint on both the interior and exterior.
That's it and your house is re-born.
